Ottawa Employment Demographics

The current City of Ottawa is a newer city which is made up of the former City of Ottawa, plus all of the the other Cities and Municipalities that comprised the former Ottawa-Carleton. This amalgamation of so many cities, towns and rural areas has resulted in an extremely large city. The new Ottawa contains both an inner urban core, and extensive Greenbelts, plus large and growing urban areas outside the greenbelt, each with their own town centres and employment centres. The City of Ottawa has also contains a large network of business and industrial parks spread throughout the the city. The result of this distributed city design is a very large city with many employment nodes. The former "original City of Ottawa's" downtown core has about 20% of the total employment, while the remaining employment is scattered amoung the Business Parks, and the urban areas outside of the Greenbelt. Kanata, with its High-Technology industries is the largest of these "Outside the Greenbelt" Employment areas.
